4. How long should the market be on?
a. 9am - 1pm 22.2% (46)
b. 10am - 2pm 46% (96)
c. 1pm - 4pm 10.52% (22)
d. 9am - 3pm 21.04%(44)
e. Other (please say what) 0.478% (1)
11am - 3pm would allow us to visit in the summer on Saturdays. We would love to hold a stall ourselves but the current timing is completely at odds with the ferry timetable from Sanday to Kirkwall. Winter is more difficult (say, 12.00 to 14:30) and 13:00 - 16:00 in the refit period. In short, this event, as with all other mainland events, simply ignores the needs of the outer islands.
5. Where should the market be held?
a. Indoors 75.05% (157)
b. Outdoors 24.95% (52)
6. Where should the market be held?
a. In Kirkwall 63% (131)
b. In Stromness 0%
c. Alternate between Kirkwall and Stromness 37%(78)
d. Other location (please say where) 0%
7. Should hot food be offered at the market?
YES 99.044% (207) NO 0.956% (2)
8. Please give any other suggestions you have for the future of the market.
Fresh food needs to be more than once a month. (16)
Outdoor markets in summer (49)
Hot local food in winter (41)
Market perceived to be rather expensive (2)
Not enough stalls to make it worthwhile visiting (1)
Good as at present (2)
Reconsider name – not just farmers produce (1)
Make the range of stalls more widely known to the public (1)
PRESS RELEASE 30th January 2012
Thank you to the 209 people who took part in the market survey. We are analysing the results now and will be publishing the results together with the Association's response next week.
